An article in the February 2008 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition links eating a variety of berries to lower blood pressure and higher HDL “good” cholesterol. We try to keep a couple of big bags of berries in the freezer, wild Maine blueberries and an organic mixed berry assortment (both from Costco or BJ’s). The blueberries go into muffins or pancakes or a quick sauce. The berry assortment is delicious in smoothies or layered with yogurt. In season, freeze your own by rinsing berries, letting them dry, freezing on a baking sheet, and storing in sealable bags or containers.
